About the event

This exclusive lunch will convene senior leaders, investors, and policymakers to explore the growing opportunities within Uganda’s energy and mining sectors—two pillars central to the country’s economic transformation.

Uganda stands at a pivotal moment. With significant oil reserves nearing production, an expanding renewable energy portfolio, and vast untapped mineral wealth—including gold, rare earth elements, and critical minerals—the country offers a compelling investment landscape. At the same time, the government is prioritising infrastructure development, regulatory reform, and international partnerships to unlock sustainable growth.

The lunch will provide a focused platform for dialogue and insight. Attendees will hear from key stakeholders on Uganda’s strategic vision, including developments in oil and gas, hydropower, and emerging clean energy initiatives. Discussions will also highlight the mining sector’s potential, recent licensing frameworks, and opportunities for responsible, long-term investment.

Beyond presentations, the event is designed to foster meaningful connections. It will bring together UK and international businesses, financial institutions, and Ugandan representatives to exchange perspectives, identify partnerships, and better understand the practical pathways for engagement.

Particular emphasis will be placed on sustainability and impact. As global demand for critical minerals rises—driven by the energy transition—Uganda is well positioned to play a role. However, this must be balanced with environmental stewardship, community engagement, and transparent governance. The conversation will therefore address how investors and operators can contribute to inclusive growth while meeting international ESG standards.

For UK businesses, Uganda presents both a strategic and timely opportunity. Strong bilateral relations, combined with the UK’s expertise in energy services, mining technology, and project finance, create a natural foundation for collaboration. This lunch will explore how these strengths can align with Uganda’s ambitions.

Ultimately, the “Bringing Energy & Mining to Uganda” lunch aims to move beyond discussion to action—highlighting tangible opportunities, building trusted relationships, and supporting the next phase of Uganda’s development as a regional energy and mining hub.

Held in partnership with the Eastern Africa Association and the Westminster Africa Business Association, and hosted by the Ugandan High Commission, this high-level luncheon brings together key stakeholders to explore investment opportunities in Uganda’s energy and mining sectors.

Taking place in the Cholmondeley Room at the House of Lords, the event offers a unique forum for dialogue between government representatives, investors, and industry leaders. It reflects Uganda’s growing prominence as a destination for strategic investment, particularly as the country advances major developments in oil and gas, expands its renewable energy capacity, and opens up significant mineral resources.

The luncheon will feature a keynote address from Dr Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury at Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. His insights will provide a clear overview of Uganda’s economic priorities, fiscal strategy, and the government’s approach to enabling private sector growth. Attendees will gain first-hand understanding of how Uganda is positioning itself to attract responsible investment while ensuring long-term national development.

The focus on “Mining and Energy: Opportunities for Growth and Investment” highlights two sectors central to Uganda’s future. With commercially viable oil reserves nearing production and continued investment in hydropower and clean energy, the energy sector presents strong prospects for international partners. At the same time, Uganda’s mineral wealth—including gold and critical minerals—offers significant potential, particularly as global demand rises in support of the energy transition.

Beyond sector insights, the event is designed to facilitate meaningful engagement. It provides an opportunity to build relationships, exchange perspectives, and explore practical pathways for collaboration between UK-based businesses and Ugandan counterparts. The presence of senior policymakers ensures that discussions are grounded in current policy frameworks and real opportunities.

Sustainability and responsible investment will be key themes throughout. As Uganda develops its natural resources, there is a strong emphasis on transparency, environmental stewardship, and community benefit. Investors are encouraged to align with these principles, ensuring that growth is both inclusive and sustainable.

This luncheon is more than a networking opportunity—it is a platform to better understand Uganda’s investment landscape and to identify tangible opportunities for partnership in two of its most dynamic sectors.
